Sagri Signs MOU with Idemitsu Kosan and Lasuco under Witness of Japanese and Vietnamese Agriculture Ministers
Sagri Co., Ltd (Headquarters: Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture, CEO: Shunsuke Tsuboi) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. and Lam Son Sugar Cane Joint Stock Corporation (Lasuco) to strengthen collaboration on the Lam Son Regenerative Sugarcane Project in Vietnam.
The signing took place during the Japan-Vietnam Public-Private Forum on Agricultural Cooperation, held on September 4, 2025, at the Tokyo Prince Hotel, in the presence of both countries’ Ministers of Agriculture.
Hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the forum brought together government officials and private sector leaders from Japan and Vietnam under the theme of “Promoting Technologies for GHG Reduction, Environmental Impact Mitigation, and Productivity Improvement.”
The MOU builds on the “Project Management Agreement” signed in December 2024 and aims to advance cooperation among the three parties toward reducing N₂O emissions from sugarcane fields, increasing soil organic carbon, and generating voluntary carbon credits through regenerative agriculture.
Under the MOU, the parties will:
- Establish an MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) system for GHG reduction,
- Proceed with verification under the Verra framework targeting carbon credit issuance by FY2027,
- Apply satellite and AI technologies for MRV,
- Collaborate with policymakers to promote carbon pricing mechanisms in Vietnam.
This trilateral collaboration reaffirms the partners’ shared commitment to sustainable agriculture and climate action in Asia.
